Industrial Design

About

The Industrial Design (English) program at Marmara University is a comprehensive four-year degree that teaches students how to design innovative, functional, and aesthetically meaningful products for everyday life. From the beginning, students explore the relationship between form, function, materials, and user experience. They learn how products are imagined, developed, tested, and prepared for manufacturing. The program introduces core design skills such as drawing, sketching, presentation techniques, 3D modeling, concept development, ergonomics, and design research. Students begin to understand how design decisions affect usability, sustainability, and user interaction.

As the program progresses, students work in studio environments where creativity, experimentation, and problem-solving are highly encouraged. They learn to evaluate user needs, work with digital and physical prototyping tools, collaborate in teams, and communicate ideas effectively. Courses focus on materials, production processes, innovation, and design strategy — allowing students to develop both technical competence and artistic vision. Located in Istanbul, a dynamic and culturally rich city, the program provides inspiration and exposure to real-world design challenges. Students benefit from workshops, studios, industry collaborations, and a supportive academic environment that encourages them to explore new approaches to design.
