African and African Diaspora Studies program provides students with a deep and interdisciplinary understanding of African cultures, histories, societies, and global diasporas. Over four years, students explore African history, literature, politics, music, art, and social movements, gaining the knowledge and analytical skills necessary to understand the continent and its global influence. The curriculum integrates classroom learning with research projects, cultural analysis, and experiential learning opportunities, allowing students to develop both theoretical insight and practical understanding. Students also examine issues of identity, migration, race, and social justice, preparing them to engage critically with complex social and cultural dynamics.
Students participate in research projects, fieldwork, community engagement, and cultural studies seminars, gaining practical experience in analyzing historical documents, cultural artifacts, and social trends. The program emphasizes critical thinking, cultural literacy, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in education, public policy, cultural institutions, international organizations, and community advocacy. Graduates leave with the ability to interpret cultural phenomena, engage with diverse communities, and contribute meaningfully to academic, social, and professional contexts related to Africa and its diasporas.

Graduates are prepared for careers in education, cultural institutions, international organizations, research, public policy, community advocacy, and media related to African and diasporic studies. They may work in museums, non-profits, NGOs, governmental agencies, or academic institutions, applying their expertise to research, program development, cultural preservation, and community engagement. The program equips students with critical thinking, research abilities, cultural literacy, and communication skills, enabling them to interpret complex social phenomena, design impactful programs, and contribute meaningfully to initiatives focusing on Africa and its diasporas. Graduates are also prepared for further studies or professional opportunities in African studies, international relations, sociology, or cultural research.
This program offers a comprehensive and applied approach to understanding African cultures and diasporas, combining theoretical study, research, and community engagement.
