The Astrophysics (Hons) program at the University of Edinburgh offers an in-depth exploration of the universe, combining theoretical physics with practical applications in astronomy and space science. This Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree equips students with a strong foundation in astrophysics, from the study of planetary systems to the fundamental workings of the universe, including cosmology and the nature of dark matter.
Over four years of full-time study, students will develop both the mathematical and observational skills needed to analyze astronomical data, design experiments, and interpret the physical laws that govern the cosmos.
The Astrophysics (Hons) program combines core physics topics with specialized astrophysics courses. In the first two years, students will focus on essential areas such as classical mechanics, electromagnetism, and quantum theory, while also exploring astronomy and astrophysics basics. In the final years, students will study advanced topics such as observational astronomy, cosmology, space physics, and theoretical models of the universe, with opportunities for independent research projects and hands-on experience in observatories.
Graduates of the Astrophysics (Hons) program are well-equipped for careers in scientific research, space agencies, data analysis, and the technology sector. Many graduates pursue postgraduate study in astrophysics, astronomy, or related fields, while others work in industries such as aerospace, software development, or scientific communication.
The Astrophysics (Hons) program at the University of Edinburgh offers world-class instruction, access to cutting-edge research facilities, and opportunities to work alongside experts in the field. Students will gain a deep understanding of the universe, preparing them for careers in academia, industry, and space research.
