The Bioengineering (UOLP) program is a four-year international undergraduate degree jointly offered by Marmara University and the International University of Sarajevo. Designed for students who want to combine engineering with life sciences, this dual-campus program provides the opportunity to study in two different countries and experience two academic environments. During the first two years in Sarajevo, students build a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics and introductory bioengineering concepts through English-medium education. In the final two years in Istanbul, they advance into biotechnology, biomedical applications, bioprocess engineering, biomaterials and laboratory-based research.
The program focuses on both scientific understanding and engineering practice. Students learn how living systems operate, how biological processes can be engineered, and how modern technologies can be used in medicine, biotechnology and environmental applications. With project-based learning, laboratory work and interdisciplinary teamwork, they gain the skills needed to design biological processes, analyze data, work with biomaterials, and contribute to solutions in health, industry and environmental fields. This international structure not only develops academic and technical skills but also provides cultural awareness, global perspective and flexibility for future career opportunities.
Semester 1 – Foundations in Life Sciences & Engineering
Semester 2 – Core Sciences & Bioengineering Fundamentals
Semester 3 – Bioengineering Basics & Materials
Semester 4 – Applied Bioengineering & Lab Skills
Semester 5 – Biotechnology & Specialization
Semester 6 – Biomedical & Process Applications
Semester 7 – Research & Industry Orientation
Semester 8 – Graduation Project & Professional Development
Graduates of the Bioengineering (English, UOLP) program can pursue careers in biotechnology, medical technology, pharmaceuticals, environmental engineering, biomedical device development and industrial bioprocessing. They may work as bioengineers, laboratory researchers, bioprocess specialists, biomedical technicians, quality control analysts, or regulatory affairs assistants in biotechnology and health-related companies. The combination of engineering and life sciences provides many pathways in research institutions, hospitals, biotech firms, environmental agencies and global technology companies. Graduates may also continue with master’s or doctoral studies in bioengineering, biotechnology, biomedical engineering or related interdisciplinary fields, expanding both academic and professional opportunities.
Choosing the Bioengineering (English, UOLP) program means joining an international learning experience that unites two universities, two cultural environments and a modern scientific curriculum. Students gain strong foundations in biological sciences and engineering principles while developing practical laboratory skills, research abilities and interdisciplinary thinking. The program allows you to study how living systems function and how engineering can be used to solve real-world problems in medicine, biotechnology and the environment.
The dual-campus model provides a unique advantage: you gain the flexibility, global awareness and academic perspective needed for international careers. By studying in Sarajevo and Istanbul, you expand your cultural understanding, learn to collaborate across borders and develop a richer academic background. With its English-medium instruction, hands-on projects and broad career pathways, this program is an excellent choice for students who want to build a future in scientific innovation and modern engineering fields.
