The Master’s Programme in Biology - Evolutionary Biology is a two-year, full-time on-campus program that focuses on the processes driving the evolution and diversity of life. The program explores how species originate, adapt, and interact over time through genetic, ecological, and environmental mechanisms. Students study topics such as evolutionary genetics, phylogenetics, population biology, adaptation, and biodiversity science.
Graduates develop strong evolutionary biology expertise, genetic and ecological analysis skills, and research competence in biodiversity studies, preparing them for careers in academic research, environmental and conservation organizations, biotechnology, and doctoral studies. Uppsala University offers a strong research-intensive environment with access to advanced laboratories and field-based evolutionary research opportunities.

Graduates of the Biology - Evolutionary Biology Master’s program are well-equipped for careers in evolutionary research, genetics, conservation biology, and bioinformatics. With expertise in the processes of evolution, species diversification, and genetic variation, alumni can work as evolutionary biologists, geneticists, bioinformaticians, and research scientists. The increasing focus on genetic conservation, biodiversity, and ecological research ensures ample career opportunities in research institutions, environmental agencies, and biotechnology companies.
The Biology - Evolutionary Biology program provides students with an in-depth understanding of the processes that shape the diversity of life on Earth. Students will explore evolutionary mechanisms, genetic analysis, and ecological patterns, gaining hands-on experience in field research and laboratory techniques. The program prepares graduates for careers in conservation, ecological research, and evolutionary studies, where they can contribute to understanding biodiversity and developing solutions to preserve species in the face of environmental changes.
