China and Asia-Pacific Studies

About

The Bachelor of Arts in China and Asia-Pacific Studies at Cornell University provides a deep and interdisciplinary understanding of the political, economic, historical, and cultural dynamics shaping China and its role in the Asia-Pacific region. Designed with a global perspective, the program draws from fields such as international relations, history, language studies, and political science to explore China’s domestic development, foreign policy, and global influence. Students examine how Asia-Pacific affairs intersect with U.S.–China relations, diplomacy, security, and international economics.

Over the four-year curriculum, students combine intensive Chinese language training with coursework on regional history, policy analysis, and contemporary global affairs. A unique feature of the program is its built-in study abroad and internship component in China and Washington, D.C., offering first-hand exposure to both Chinese society and U.S. policy-making. Through small seminars, faculty mentorship, and cross-disciplinary exploration, students are encouraged to think critically about transnational challenges and develop the skills necessary to engage with them in professional or academic settings.
