The Master of Science in City and Regional Planning at Gazi University is a graduate programme for students who want to understand how cities and regions grow, change and improve. The programme brings together theory, planning skills and studio practice, helping students learn how to design better and more liveable places. During the courses and projects, students study topics such as urban design, land use, transportation, environment, housing and sustainable development. They also learn how social, economic and physical factors shape the future of cities. The programme is completed in four semesters and accepts students every fall semester.
Based in Ankara — a city known for its cultural history, active development and growing urban needs — this programme offers a modern and supportive academic environment. Students work closely with experienced instructors, join studio classes, visit real project sites and take part in workshops that help them understand everyday planning problems. Through design tasks, teamwork and research activities, students develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills. The programme aims to prepare future planners who can design cities that are functional, fair, safe and sustainable for different groups of people and communities.
Semester 1 – Foundations of Urban Planning
Semester 2 – Urban Design & Regional Planning
Semester 3 – Research & Project Development
Semester 4 – Thesis Completion & Presentation
Graduates can work as urban planners, regional planners, transport planners, geographic information system (GIS) specialists, environmental planners, housing and infrastructure consultants, or city designers. They may join municipal planning departments, private planning offices, consultancy firms, NGOs, or international organisations working on urban development. They can also work in research, education or policy-making — or continue with a Ph.D. in planning, geography or related fields. Thanks to the English language training, graduates can collaborate internationally, join global planning projects or work abroad.
This programme is a good choice for people who care about cities, communities and future-oriented planning. You will learn how to look at urban problems — like transport, environment, housing — in an integrated way and propose smart, sustainable solutions. With studio work, real-life projects and research options, you build skills that are useful in many planning jobs.
The department combines academic quality with practical planning training. Experienced instructors, access to recent studies and a balanced curriculum help you grow as a versatile planner. The English-medium format and flexible elective choices give you the freedom to shape your education toward your interests, whether that is urban design, environmental planning, regional development or policy work.
