The Master of Science in Evolutionary Biology is a two-year, full-time on-campus program that focuses on the principles and processes driving evolution at the genetic, population, and ecological levels. The program covers a wide range of topics, including evolutionary theory, genetics, ecology, speciation, and conservation biology. Students will engage with cutting-edge research, using both theoretical and experimental approaches to explore the mechanisms of evolutionary change in natural populations.
Graduates will be well-prepared for careers in evolutionary research, conservation biology, and ecological management. Leiden University offers access to state-of-the-art laboratories, expert faculty, and opportunities for fieldwork, ensuring students develop the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to advances in evolutionary biology.
Semester 1 – Foundations in Evolutionary Biology
Semester 2 – Advanced Evolutionary Biology
Semester 3 – Applied Evolutionary Biology
Semester 4 – Master’s Thesis & Final Project
Graduates of the Evolutionary Biology Master’s program can work in evolutionary research, genetics, and environmental biology. With expertise in evolutionary processes, genetic analysis, and ecological interactions, graduates are prepared for roles as evolutionary biologists, research scientists, or conservationists. This program offers opportunities in research institutions, universities, and environmental organizations.
The Evolutionary Biology Master’s program provides students with an in-depth understanding of evolutionary processes and the mechanisms driving genetic change. Students learn about natural selection, speciation, and ecological interactions, preparing them for careers in research and environmental conservation. The program’s emphasis on hands-on research ensures that graduates are well-equipped to contribute to advancements in biology and conservation science. Graduates are ready to work in research and field-based environmental projects.
