The Master’s Programme in Evolutionary Biology - MEME is a two-year, full-time on-campus program that focuses on the mechanisms of evolution and the diversity of life across ecological and genetic scales. The program explores how evolutionary processes shape species adaptation, biodiversity, and biological systems over time. Students study topics such as evolutionary genetics, phylogenetics, population biology, ecological interactions, and advanced evolutionary theory.
Graduates develop strong evolutionary biology expertise, genetic analysis skills, and research competence in biodiversity and adaptation, preparing them for careers in academic research, environmental and conservation organizations, biotechnology, and doctoral studies. Uppsala University offers a strong research-intensive environment with access to advanced evolutionary biology laboratories and field-based research opportunities.

Graduates of the Evolutionary Biology - MEME Master’s program are well-prepared for careers in research, conservation biology, genomics, and environmental science. With expertise in evolutionary theory, biodiversity, and genetics, alumni can work as evolutionary biologists, genetic researchers, wildlife conservationists, and environmental consultants. The increasing focus on biodiversity and the impact of evolutionary processes on ecosystems ensures strong career opportunities for graduates in academia, conservation organizations, and research institutes.
The Evolutionary Biology - MEME program offers students a comprehensive understanding of the evolutionary processes that shape biodiversity and ecosystems. Students will study the genetics, ecology, and evolutionary history of species, gaining hands-on experience in molecular biology and field research. The program prepares graduates for careers in conservation, environmental research, and evolutionary studies, where they can contribute to understanding and preserving the natural world.
