The Experimental Linguistics (International Programme) at University College London (UCL) is an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science program that explores the scientific study of language through experimental methodologies. Over the course of four years, students will engage in research-driven learning, combining theoretical linguistics with hands-on experience in experimental design and data analysis.
This program focuses on the cognitive and social aspects of language, providing a deep understanding of how language functions and evolves. Students will gain expertise in experimental techniques, data collection, and analysis, preparing them for careers in academia, research, or industry roles in linguistics, technology, and social sciences.
The program begins with foundational courses in linguistics, including phonetics, syntax, semantics, and language acquisition. As students progress, they will gain hands-on experience in experimental design and research methods. The latter years of the program focus on specialized topics such as psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and computational linguistics. Students also have the opportunity to engage in collaborative research projects and gain international exposure through exchange programs and partnerships with global institutions.
Graduates of the Experimental Linguistics (International Programme) are equipped with a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied linguistics. They are well-prepared for careers in academia, research, technology, data analysis, and language-related industries such as artificial intelligence, language therapy, and education. Many graduates also pursue further studies in linguistics, cognitive science, or computational fields.
UCLβs Experimental Linguistics (International Programme) offers a cutting-edge approach to the study of language, combining rigorous academic study with experimental research. Students benefit from UCLβs world-class research facilities, expert faculty, and opportunities for international collaboration. This program is ideal for those interested in exploring the scientific side of linguistics and pursuing careers in research and technology.
