The Film, Exhibition, and Curation program at the University of Edinburgh is a one-year, full-time Master of Science course that focuses on the study and presentation of film in contemporary cultural contexts. The program offers students the opportunity to engage with both the theoretical and practical aspects of film studies, with a particular emphasis on film curation and exhibition.
Delivered on-campus, the program equips students with the skills to curate film programs, manage film festivals, and contribute to the broader field of film scholarship, preparing them for careers in cultural institutions, museums, and the film industry.
The program includes core modules on film history, theory, and analysis, with specializations in exhibition practices and curatorial studies. Students will engage in practical experiences such as curating film screenings, organizing events, and exploring the intersection of film and other cultural forms. A final dissertation project allows students to apply their learning to real-world film curation practices.
Graduates can pursue careers in film festivals, cultural institutions, film archives, and museums, as well as in media organizations and film production companies. Opportunities also exist in curatorial roles, film programming, film criticism, and academic research.
The University of Edinburgh offers a dynamic program that blends academic rigor with hands-on experience in film curation and exhibition. Students benefit from expert faculty and access to Edinburgh’s rich cultural and filmic heritage, preparing them to make significant contributions to the global film industry and cultural sectors.
