The Geophysics and Geology (Hons) program at the University of Edinburgh offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the Earth’s physical processes and structures. Over four years, students will study both geophysics and geology, gaining insight into the Earth's composition, tectonics, and geophysical methods used to explore the subsurface.
Graduates will be equipped with the skills and knowledge required for careers in environmental consultancy, energy exploration, and geological research.
The Geophysics and Geology (Hons) program blends theoretical knowledge with practical skills. In the first two years, students will focus on core subjects in geology, physical chemistry, and geophysics. The final two years allow for specialization in areas such as geophysical data analysis, seismic methods, mineral exploration, and structural geology, with opportunities for fieldwork and research projects.
Graduates of the Geophysics and Geology (Hons) program can pursue careers in the energy, mining, and environmental sectors, focusing on areas such as resource exploration, geological surveying, and geotechnical engineering. The program’s emphasis on both theoretical knowledge and practical experience ensures that graduates are prepared for roles in industries that require expertise in Earth sciences and geophysical technology.
The Geophysics and Geology (Hons) program at the University of Edinburgh provides students with a rigorous education in Earth sciences, combining the study of geology and geophysics to address global challenges such as resource management and environmental sustainability. With strong academic and industry connections, students gain hands-on experience and access to world-class research facilities.
