The Master of Science in Higher Archaeological Practice at the University of Southampton is designed for those wishing to develop advanced practical skills in archaeology, particularly for those aspiring to pursue professional careers in archaeological fieldwork and heritage management. This one-year, full-time program covers advanced archaeological field methods, excavation techniques, site analysis, and heritage management practices.
On-campus learning includes extensive fieldwork opportunities, lab-based archaeological analysis, and hands-on experience in heritage conservation. Graduates are prepared for careers in archaeological excavation, museum curation, heritage management, and cultural resource management, where they can contribute to the preservation and interpretation of global archaeological sites.

Opportunities exist in government agencies, research institutions, museums, archaeological consultancy firms, and heritage preservation organizations, focusing on site excavation, artefact conservation, and cultural heritage management.
This program offers an in-depth exploration of higher archaeological practice, combining field-based training with advanced research methods.
