The Kinesiology - Physical Activity Epidemiology Master’s Program at the University of Wisconsin is a one-year, full-time, on-campus Master of Science program designed to explore the relationship between physical activity and public health. This program combines the principles of kinesiology, epidemiology, and health promotion to address the growing need for evidence-based strategies to combat lifestyle-related diseases and improve community health outcomes. Students will gain a strong foundation in epidemiological research methods, data analysis, and the role of physical activity in preventing chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
The program's curriculum includes coursework on research methodology, exercise science, and public health interventions, allowing students to design and conduct research that links physical activity to various health outcomes. Students will also have opportunities to work on real-world projects and engage in fieldwork to assess how physical activity can be incorporated into public health programs. By the end of the program, graduates will be prepared to conduct high-level research in physical activity epidemiology, contribute to health policy development, and work in diverse settings, including public health organizations, research institutions, and healthcare systems.
Semester 1 – Foundations of Physical Activity Epidemiology
Semester 2 – Advanced Epidemiology and Health Promotion
Semester 3 – Research and Data Analysis in Physical Activity
Semester 4 – Capstone Project and Career Development
Graduates of the Kinesiology - Physical Activity Epidemiology Master’s Program are well-equipped to pursue careers in public health, exercise science, and health research. Alumni typically work as epidemiologists, public health researchers, health promotion specialists, program evaluators, or policy advisors. With a deep understanding of the connection between physical activity and chronic disease prevention, graduates are sought after by public health organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, non-profits, and healthcare systems. They may work on research projects, develop health promotion programs, or contribute to policy initiatives aimed at increasing physical activity in communities. Graduates may also pursue doctoral studies in kinesiology, epidemiology, or public health.
The Kinesiology - Physical Activity Epidemiology Master’s Program at the University of Wisconsin offers a unique opportunity to combine the science of kinesiology with the public health focus of epidemiology to address pressing health issues. This one-year, full-time program is designed for students interested in using research to promote physical activity and disease prevention at the population level. Students will gain a solid foundation in epidemiological research, health behavior theory, and public health interventions, along with hands-on experience through the capstone project. With expert faculty and a strong emphasis on real-world research, this program provides the knowledge and skills necessary to become leaders in public health and physical activity research. Graduates will be well-prepared for a variety of career paths in health promotion, community health, and epidemiological research.
