The Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies Master’s program at the University of Wisconsin is a two-year, full-time on-campus program designed for students who wish to deepen their knowledge of the literature, culture, and history of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Iberian Peninsula. This interdisciplinary program provides a comprehensive exploration of the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world, offering insight into the political, social, artistic, and intellectual movements that have shaped the region over centuries. Students will study a wide range of topics, including colonial and post-colonial literature, theatre, film, and cultural memory, as well as issues such as identity, migration, gender, and race.
Through advanced language study, literary analysis, and cultural critique, students will develop the critical skills necessary to engage with the literary traditions of the region, while also exploring contemporary issues that impact the societies of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Iberian countries today. The program offers an opportunity for students to work closely with faculty experts in literature, history, and cultural studies, and participate in research projects, fieldwork, and interdisciplinary seminars. Graduates will be well-prepared for careers in academia, translation, international development, cultural diplomacy, and policy-making.
