Master of Divinity and Master of Public Health

About

The Master of Divinity and Master of Public Health dual degree at Emory University is a four-year, full-time program designed to integrate theological education with rigorous public health training. This unique academic pathway prepares students to serve as spiritually grounded leaders who address both the physical and spiritual needs of individuals and communities. By combining pastoral formation, ethical reflection, epidemiologic analysis, and health systems strategy, students are empowered to promote health justice, advocate for underserved populations, and build bridges between faith-based organizations and public health institutions.

Offered jointly through the Candler School of Theology and the Rollins School of Public Health, the program enables students to explore the moral dimensions of health policy, the role of religion in healing, and the power of faith communities in health promotion. Whether working in global missions, nonprofit leadership, chaplaincy, or community outreach, students gain the knowledge and skills to respond holistically to suffering, illness, and health disparities. With a curriculum rooted in compassionate leadership, scientific rigor, cultural sensitivity, and public service, graduates leave prepared to transform both sacred and secular spaces with informed, ethical action.
