Mineral Processing Engineering

About

The Bachelor of Science in Mineral Processing Engineering (English) at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi (İTÜ) is a programme that trains students to transform natural mineral resources into useful raw materials for many industries. In this programme, you learn how to process ores and minerals: separating metals or valuable materials, removing impurities, crushing, grinding, classifying, and enrichment techniques to prepare minerals for metallurgy, ceramics, cement, energy, construction materials and more. You also study mathematics, physics, chemistry and material sciences to build a strong foundation. Studies combine theory, lab work and practical courses — students learn how to design processing plants, use modelling and simulation, and manage mineral processing operations responsibly and efficiently.

This programme is important for modern industry and environment: you help turn raw ores or low-grade minerals into usable materials, support energy and resource production, and contribute to sustainable use of resources. With English-language instruction and education at a strong technical university, you learn up-to-date methods, technologies and environmental awareness. If you are interested in geology, materials, mining and want a job which connects science, engineering and real-world resource needs — this programme gives you a solid and meaningful base.

They may be employed in mining and ore-processing plants, cement and construction materials factories, metal and metallurgical industries, energy and coal preparation plants, recycling and waste-processing facilities, environmental management firms, or public institutions managing resources and mining.

Why Choose This Program

Choosing Mineral Processing Engineering at İTÜ means you join a unique programme that connects geology, materials science and engineering — you learn how raw minerals are converted into useful materials for society. You gain deep knowledge of mineralogy, processing, plant design and environmental technology, which helps you work on resource production and sustainable material supply. The programme’s combination of theory, labs and real-world applications trains you to solve real industry problems and think about environmental and societal impacts. With English (or English-compatible) instruction and ITU’s reputation, you also prepare for both national and international careers.

Because raw materials are essential for many industries — construction, energy, manufacturing, materials — a mineral processing engineer has wide opportunities. This programme gives you flexibility: work in mining, metallurgy, energy, materials manufacturing, environmental sectors or research. If you like science, engineering, natural resources and want a career that builds materials our society uses — this programme gives a meaningful, versatile and future-oriented start.
