The Social Epidemiology program at University College London (UCL) is a one-year, full-time Master of Science designed to provide students with the tools to study how social factors influence the distribution and determinants of health in populations. This program emphasizes understanding the social, economic, and environmental factors that affect public health and applying epidemiological methods to address health disparities. Students will learn how to design studies, analyze data, and interpret findings to promote health equity and improve public health policies.
Graduates will be equipped with the skills to address pressing health issues related to social inequality, public health interventions, and the broader social determinants of health. UCL’s strong public health research environment provides students with an opportunity to contribute to the global dialogue on health disparities and social justice in healthcare.
The program includes core courses in epidemiology, social determinants of health, research methods, and biostatistics. Students will explore issues such as health inequality, access to healthcare, and the impact of policy on public health outcomes. The curriculum combines theoretical study with practical research experience, culminating in a dissertation that allows students to address a specific issue in social epidemiology.
Graduates of the Social Epidemiology program are prepared for careers in public health research, policy analysis, and epidemiological consulting. They can work for government agencies, international health organizations, NGOs, and academic institutions. The program provides the expertise needed to develop and implement public health programs, advocate for social change, and address health disparities in diverse communities.
UCL’s Social Epidemiology program offers a unique opportunity to study the intersection of social factors and public health. The program is designed to equip students with the critical thinking and research skills needed to tackle complex public health challenges.
