The Bachelor of Science in Space Engineering is a respected undergraduate program at Istanbul Technical University. Designed for students who want to explore space technologies, spacecraft design and aerospace systems, this full-time international program combines scientific foundations with hands-on engineering practice. Students gain experience in satellite and spacecraft design, space systems, aerodynamics, materials and testing, preparing them for roles in global aerospace and space technology industry. The program is structured across eight semesters and admits students exclusively in the fall semester.
Located in Istanbul, a city bridging continents and hosting a dynamic academic and industrial environment, this bachelor’s program emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory work. With access to state-of-the-art labs — including wind tunnels, composite material labs, simulation and testing facilities — students benefit from a rich research environment. The program reflects ITU’s long-standing tradition in aerospace education and offers excellent opportunities to join national or international space-related projects or industries.
Semester 1 – Foundations of Space Engineering
Semester 2 – Basic Sciences and Mechanics
Semester 3 – Aerodynamics & Materials
Semester 4 – Propulsion, Systems & Structures
Semester 5 – Space Systems & Orbital Mechanics
Semester 6 – Advanced Aerospace Engineering
Semester 7 – Industry Preparation & Applied Projects
Semester 8 – Graduation & Final Project
Graduates of this program can work in many fields related to aerospace, space systems, satellite design, defense industry, research centers or space agencies. They may join companies building satellites, aerospace firms, defense contractors, or national and international space research institutes. Some graduates work on spacecraft design, orbital mission planning, rocket and propulsion systems, satellite manufacturing or space-vehicle testing. Others enter roles in systems engineering, aerospace project management or research & development in space technologies. With ITU’s ABET-accredited education and strong practical background, graduates are also eligible for graduate studies in aerospace engineering, astrophysics or related fields, and can join international space projects.
Choosing the Space Engineering program at ITU means joining an advanced engineering field with real-world importance — designing and building spacecraft, satellites or aerospace systems that shape our scientific and technological future. Students master aerodynamics, propulsion, materials, orbital mechanics and systems design while gaining hands-on laboratory and simulation experience. This strong technical foundation prepares them for challenging engineering tasks in space industry or research.
The program’s unique strength lies in its practical labs, modern facilities and connection to national and international aerospace projects. Students learn to work in teams, solve complex engineering problems, and apply interdisciplinary thinking involving mechanics, materials science, electronics and systems engineering. If you are passionate about space, science and technology, this programme offers a robust pathway to contribute to aerospace, satellite technology, and global space efforts.
