Translation and Interpretation

About

The English Translation and Interpretation program at Marmara University is a four-year undergraduate degree taught completely in English, designed for students who want to master translation, interpretation, language skills, and cross-cultural communication. Throughout the years, students develop strong competence in translating written texts and interpreting spoken language between English and Turkish (and possibly other languages), learn theoretical foundations in linguistics, translation studies, and cultural studies, and practice practical translation and interpretation tasks. The program offers a balanced blend of theory — language analysis, translation theory, intercultural communication — and hands-on practice — simultaneous interpreting, written translation, editing — preparing graduates to work professionally in many language-related fields.

Located in Istanbul, the program provides students with access to a diverse, multilingual environment, modern teaching resources, and many opportunities to practise translation and interpretation with real texts and communication scenarios. It is ideal for students who enjoy languages, communication, and bridging cultures — equipping them for both national and international careers in media, translation, diplomacy, business, or academia.
