The master’s‐level Translation Studies (Thesis) program at Ege University aims to provide students with advanced theoretical knowledge and practical competence in translation studies, interpreting, intercultural communication, and translation research. The program includes graduate-level courses, seminars, research methodology, and a thesis component. Students develop advanced translation and interpreting skills, deepen their understanding of translation theory, ethics, and practice, and gain the research capacity required for academic or professional careers in translation, interpretation, and multilingual communication.
Offered under the Institute of Social Sciences, this English-division (or bilingual) program prepares graduates for roles in research, academia, professional translation/interpretation, localization, editing, or further academic studies (e.g. doctorate). The curriculum balances theory, practice, and research, equipping students with solid foundations in translation studies and applied language skills.
Semester 1 – Foundations of Translation Studies & Research Methods
Semester 2 – Advanced Translation & Interpreting Practices
Semester 3 – Specialization & Thesis Preparation
Semester 4 – Master’s Thesis & Final Project
Graduates of this program are well-positioned for careers as professional translators, interpreters (conference, legal, technical, audiovisual), localization specialists, translation project managers, editors, linguistic consultants, and researchers. They may also work in publishing houses, media, international organizations, cultural institutions, education, or further academic/research roles (PhD, academia).
The program’s design — with core courses in theory and practice, electives for specialization, and a thesis component — allows for deep immersion in translation studies, development of advanced linguistic and intercultural skills, and opportunities to conduct original research.
With bilingual instruction, access to experienced faculty, and a department committed to translation studies research and innovation, the program provides a strong platform for graduates to excel in a globalized, multilingual world — whether as translators/interpreters, localization specialists, or researchers in academia or industry.
