UCL International Foundation (Undergraduate Preparatory Certificates)

This is a preparatory certificate rather than a degree, and reading it that way explains most of its design. It runs ten months, full-time and on UCL's own campus in London, and is meant for international students whose school-leaving qualifications do not lead straight into a UK undergraduate course. The engineering and technology route covers mathematics, physics and engineering concepts, and for students who meet the required standards the certificate leads on to a UCL undergraduate course.

The other half of the year is the part applicants tend to underestimate. Alongside the subject material, the programme teaches academic research, writing and presentation, and includes English language support. These are the working habits a British degree assumes you arrive with, and for a student coming from a different school system they can be a larger adjustment than the mathematics. Anyone applying should note the timing: the deadline for the intake listed here is 30 April 2026, and the certificate adds an academic year ahead of the degree itself.
