Emory University’s Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) program is a two-year, full-time online Master of Science degree that prepares registered nurses to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care focused on women’s health across the lifespan. Designed for working professionals, the program blends academic flexibility with rigorous clinical training, enabling students to build advanced practice skills in reproductive health, prenatal and postpartum care, gynecology, and primary care specific to women’s needs. The curriculum emphasizes holistic, patient-centered care and fosters strong clinical reasoning through both online coursework and supervised practicum experiences in students' local communities.
Students explore the physical, emotional, and social aspects of women’s health while developing advanced competencies in diagnosis, treatment planning, and health promotion. Faculty mentors support students through personalized guidance and virtual engagement, while partnerships with preceptors ensure that clinical requirements are fulfilled in a range of real-world settings. The program integrates core values of health equity, cultural sensitivity, and professional integrity, empowering graduates to serve as trusted advocates and healthcare leaders dedicated to improving outcomes for women and marginalized populations.

Graduates of the WHNP program are well-prepared for roles as advanced practice registered nurses specializing in women’s health across a variety of settings. These include OB/GYN clinics, primary care practices, family planning centers, community health organizations, and telehealth platforms. WHNPs provide services such as well-woman exams, contraceptive counseling, prenatal and postpartum care, STI screening, and menopause management. With their advanced training, they often serve as clinical leaders, educators, and patient advocates focused on reducing disparities in women's healthcare. Many work alongside obstetricians, midwives, and public health professionals, and some pursue roles in policy development, healthcare administration, or global health initiatives that center women’s rights and reproductive justice. This degree also provides a pathway for continued doctoral study or specialization in related fields, offering graduates the flexibility to shape dynamic and impactful careers in both clinical and advocacy settings.
This program offers a powerful combination of academic excellence, clinical flexibility, and a mission-driven focus on women’s health. Emory’s School of Nursing is nationally recognized for its commitment to leadership in healthcare, and the online format ensures accessibility for professionals who need to balance education with work and personal responsibilities.
