The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at METU is a rigorous undergraduate program designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills to plan, design, build and maintain infrastructure and built environment systems. The curriculum integrates mathematics, physics and engineering fundamentals with specialized courses in structural mechanics, materials science, hydraulics, geotechnics, surveying, transportation, water resources, environment and construction management. Through a balance of theoretical instruction, laboratory work, field practices and summer internships, students develop analytical thinking, engineering design skills, problem-solving ability and a deep understanding of engineering ethics and sustainability.
Located in Ankara at METU’s established engineering faculty, the program benefits from extensive lab facilities, research-oriented environment, and a broad range of civil engineering subfields — enabling students to engage with structural design, water and environmental engineering, transportation systems, soil and foundation analysis, coastal and hydraulic works, and more. This broad and applied training prepares graduates to meet contemporary challenges in construction, infrastructure, environment and urban development, either in industry, public sector or research.
Semester 1 – Foundations of Engineering Sciences
Semester 2 – Basic Engineering Mathematics & Physics
Semester 3 – Core Mechanics & Materials
Semester 4 – Structural Mechanics & Applied Mathematics
Semester 5 – Geotechnics, Hydraulics & Infrastructure Systems I
Semester 6 – Water Resources, Environmental & Construction Engineering
Semester 7 – Advanced Structural / Geotechnical / Infrastructure Specialization
Semester 8 – Graduation Project & Professional Preparation
Graduates of this Civil Engineering program are prepared for careers in structural design and analysis, geotechnical engineering, water resources and hydraulic engineering, infrastructure and transport planning, environmental engineering, construction management, urban development, surveying and geodesy, coastal and harbour engineering, and project management. They may work as civil/structural engineers, project or site managers, water resources engineers, geotechnical consultants, environmental or hydraulic engineers, infrastructure planners, or pursue graduate studies (M.Sc. / Ph.D.) in specialized fields of civil engineering.
Choosing Civil Engineering at METU provides a broad, flexible and high-quality engineering education that covers almost all major subfields of civil engineering — from structures and materials to water resources, transportation, geotechnics, environment and construction management.
With access to modern laboratories and diverse specializations, students can tailor their education according to their interests — whether in structural design, environmental engineering, water resources, transportation or infrastructure management — making this program ideal for those aiming for versatile careers or further academic/research paths.
