History & Foundation

Technical University of Braunschweig (TU Braunschweig) traces its roots back to 1745, when it was founded as the Collegium Carolinum, one of Germany’s earliest institutions for technical education. Despite heavy damage during World War II, TU Braunschweig resumed teaching and research, becoming the first German technical university to continue operations after the war. In 1968, the university expanded to include humanities and social sciences, forming the modern multidisciplinary structure it maintains today, combining historical legacy with cutting-edge research and international collaboration.
