The Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering UOLP (ABD-Montana State University) — a joint programme of Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) and Montana State University (MSU) — is an international dual-degree programme designed to train bioengineers with global knowledge and skills. In this programme, students study core sciences like mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology, and also specialized subjects such as biomaterials, biomechanics, biomedical systems, medical device design, and bio-data analysis. They learn engineering principles alongside biological and medical knowledge, enabling them to design and develop medical technologies, biotechnological applications, and solutions to biological problems. Through labs, projects and interdisciplinary courses, students build strong analytical thinking, problem-solving and creative design skills.
The UOLP structure means that the program is split between two universities: students spend the first and third years at ITU, and the second and fourth years at Montana State University. This gives them exposure to two different academic and cultural environments. They benefit from both Turkish engineering tradition and American research-oriented education. The English-taught curriculum ensures that graduates are ready for international careers or further studies abroad, and the dual diploma gives them more opportunities worldwide.
Semester 1 – Foundations: Basic Sciences & Intro to Bioengineering
Semester 2 – Core Sciences & Engineering Basics
Semester 3 – Bioengineering Core: Materials & Biological Systems
Semester 4 – Biomedical Systems & Data Skills
Semester 5 – Medical Devices, Biomaterials & Biomechanics
Semester 6 – Advanced Bioengineering & Systems Integration
Semester 7 – Applications, Research, Industry & Internship
Semester 8 – Graduation Project & Professional Preparation
Graduates of this programme can work as biomedical engineer, medical device designer, biotech researcher, bioinformatics specialist, clinical engineer, quality and regulatory affairs expert in medical / pharmaceutical industry, R&D engineer in biotechnology, or consultant in health-tech firms. They may join hospitals, medical device companies, biotechnology firms, research institutes, pharmaceutical firms, environmental and health-tech startups, or regulatory and compliance organisations. Because bioengineering combines engineering, biology and health sciences, graduates are also eligible for postgraduate studies in engineering, medicine, biotech, or global research.
Choosing the Bioengineering UOLP programme with ITU and Montana State University gives you the chance to study a unique mix of engineering, biology and medical science — a combination that leads to many global opportunities. You learn to design medical technologies, understand biological systems, work with data and solve real health and biotech problems. The dual-degree structure and English instruction prepare you for international work or further studies abroad. Practical labs, interdisciplinary projects and a broad curriculum help you build strong technical and analytical skills.
Because healthcare, biotechnology and biomedical innovation are growing fast globally, this programme offers many future career paths. You can work in medical devices, biotech research, healthcare technology, pharmaceuticals, environmental health, research labs or global health-tech firms. If you care about biology, engineering and want to help improve human health or develop new technologies, this programme gives you a powerful and versatile foundation.
