History & Foundation


The Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) was officially established in 2023 through the merger of the University of Kaiserslautern and Landau University of Applied Sciences. Its origins trace back to 1970 with the founding of the University of Kaiserslautern, which focused on engineering, natural sciences, and computer science.
