History & Foundation

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) founded the TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETU) in Ankara in 2003. Initially comprising three faculties—Engineering, Economics and Administrative Sciences, and Science and Letters—with ten departments, the university welcomed its first students in 2004 and held its first graduation ceremony in 2008.

Over time, TOBB ETU expanded its academic offerings by adding new faculties and programs, including Law and Medicine. In 2013, the university ranked first out of 51 universities established after 2000 in the URAP success ranking, which evaluates universities based on their academic achievements.

Education & Research

With six faculties, twenty-one departments, and two institutes, TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETÜ) continues to provide diverse academic opportunities. For new students, university life begins with an English proficiency exam, ensuring readiness for academic studies.

TOBB ETÜ places strong emphasis on internationalisation, coordinating student exchange programs and maintaining collaborations with some of the world’s leading universities. International students benefit from scholarship opportunities, further supporting their academic journey in Ankara.

From its very first semester, TOBB ETÜ ranked among the top 5 most preferred universities by students, and it is recognized by its motto: “A university that reverses the brain drain.”

One of the university’s founding objectives has been to establish itself as a research-focused institution that contributes across multiple fields. The Technology Center, housing 13 design studios, 37 training labs, and 74 research labs, integrates education and research, enabling students to work on interdisciplinary projects and transform ideas into practice.

TOBB ETÜ actively collaborates with global universities and research institutions, presenting research outcomes at international conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Students and researchers also benefit from scholarships and financial support, ensuring that innovative findings are both developed and made accessible to the wider public.

Thanks to these strong industry connections, 95% of undergraduate graduates secure employment shortly after graduation.

The TOBB ETÜ Alumni Association, founded on May 14, 2008, plays a key role in preserving the university’s values and fostering professional solidarity and communication among its graduates, strengthening the lifelong bond between alumni and the university.
