Situated in Finland's core, the University of Jyväskylä represents top-notch academia where open-spirited community collaborates with innovative, cross-disciplinary research. JYU fuses a wide range of disciplines, including education, psychology, natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, health and sport sciences, IT, as well as business and economics - creating a vibrant hub enriched with advanced insights and competencies.
The origins of the University of Jyväskylä trace back to the pioneering Finnish-speaking teacher education institution, Jyväskylä Teacher Seminary, founded in 1863 by Uno Cygnaeus, commonly referred to as "the Patriarch of the Finnish Primary Education System". Anchored in this history, we excel in teacher education and progressive teaching methodologies, coupled with fields such as the natural sciences, humanities, and health and sports sciences.
The University of Jyväskylä offers 20 rigorously research-based master's degree programmes, all taught in English over a two-year period. These programmes culminate in an officially accredited master’s degree, providing a solid foundation for further doctoral studies. We proudly bestow about 160 doctorates each year. Our institution is committed to nurturing not only research experts but also well-rounded professionals in diverse disciplines to fulfill society's needs.
Our stunning campus is a seat to a vibrant, multifaceted research establishment - a thriving and cooperative community of 2,600 specialists and 15,000 students collaboratively exploring solutions to our world's crucial current and future questions.
