History

The origins of the University of Jyväskylä trace back to the pioneering Finnish-speaking teacher education institution, Jyväskylä Teacher Seminary, founded in 1863 by Uno Cygnaeus, commonly referred to as "the Patriarch of the Finnish Primary Education System". Anchored in this history, we excel in teacher education and progressive teaching methodologies, coupled with fields such as the natural sciences, humanities, and health and sports sciences.

Education

The University of Jyväskylä offers 20 rigorously research-based master's degree programmes, all taught in English over a two-year period. These programmes culminate in an officially accredited master’s degree, providing a solid foundation for further doctoral studies. We proudly bestow about 160 doctorates each year.
