Malmö University (Malmö universitet) is a public higher education institution in Malmö, in the Skåne region of southern Sweden. It was established in 1998 as a university college, or högskola, and was granted full university status by the Swedish government on 1 January 2018. That comparatively recent origin sets it apart from Sweden's centuries-old institutions and underpins an academic profile oriented toward applied, practice-based study, with coursework that regularly incorporates internships and projects developed alongside employers, public agencies and community organisations. Enrolment stood at roughly 14,400 full-time equivalent students in 2024, placing the university among the larger providers of higher education in the country.

Teaching and research are organised into five faculties. The Faculty of Technology and Society houses computer science together with media technology and product design, while the Faculty of Culture and Society brings together global political studies, urban studies, language and linguistics, and the School of Arts and Communication, a base for work in digital media and design. The Faculty of Education and Society runs one of the country's largest teacher training operations. Health-related provision is divided between the Faculty of Health and Society, situated on the grounds of the city's university hospital, and the Faculty of Odontology, whose dentistry, dental hygiene and dental technology programmes were designated a national Centre of Excellence in Higher Education in a 2007 government review.

Designated research priorities span the drivers and effects of international migration, urban development and environmental sustainability, and the ways digital media reshape public discourse and creative expression. This orientation toward socially relevant questions reflects the institution's setting. The main campus occupies Universitetsholmen in central Malmö, much of it built on land that belonged to the Kockums shipyard until the mid-1980s, and the university's expansion has been bound up with the city's shift away from heavy manufacturing and shipbuilding toward services, research and education. Malmö sits at the Swedish end of the Öresund crossing to Copenhagen, placing the university inside a cross-border metropolitan region.
